Youth Energy Summit (YES!)
SWIF is partnering with Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center (PWELC) in Spicer, Minn., to put renewable energy and conservation into the future of west central and southwestern Minnesota through a Youth Energy Summit (YES!) that includes youth education, public awareness, and a competition that challenges young people in grades 8 through 12 to implement community action projects.
Youth Energy Summit (YES!) September 20th and 21st, 2007, at PWELC: Student teams were educated about issues and opportunities related to renewable energy in a hands-on environment, learn from energy resources and industry experts, and be energized to take on an energy action project in their communities. On the evening of September 20th, an education event open to the public was held at the WEAC Auditorium in Willmar, Minn.
Co-opetition:
Student teams will be challenged to implement renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in their communities. Teams worked on their projects on an ongoing basis from the date of the Summit through Earth Day 2008, with guidance from a local mentor/coach and PWELC staff. Projects were judged around Earth Day 2008. Prizes will be awarded and communities will join in the celebration.
