The Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) is committed to supporting the region's entrepreneurs. One of the key goals of the Entrepreneurship Initiative is to create a coordinated regional network of resources to support existing and emerging business owners.
To begin building a strong regional network path, SWIF is hosting an Entrepreneurship Network Academy to promote a thorough understanding of entrepreneurship and the vital role it plays in rural economic development, and provide training and tools to take entrepreneurial action. The Academy is being facilitated by Don Macke, do-director of the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship in Lincoln, Neb. The first two-day session was held in June 2007 and the second two-day session will take place on September 19-20, 2007.
The outcome of the Academy will be to build consensus around best strategies based on the combined input and work of the participants. This shared learning will begin to build a system of support for the region's entrepreneurs, which will add to the economic vitality of southwest Minnesota.
